Beto has admitted he has become mentally stronger since joining Everton and believes his upturn in form is because he doesn't give up. The forward, who moved to the Blues from Udinese in August 2023, enjoyed an impressive second half of the previous campaign following the return of David Moyes.

However, the Guinea Bissau international failed to build on his impressive form at the start of the current campaign. The 28-year-old only scored once in the Premier League during the first-half of the season. However, since the end of January, Beto has rediscovered his goalscoring touch, scoring four times in his last five games, and believes the late strike against Brighton & Hove Albion was key to turning things around.

“I think it’s just because I don’t give up,” he told the Everton matchday programme when asked for the reasons behind his current form.

“I know people in my position would have given up. Me? Even if I go to the last game of the season and I only have one goal to my name, I will still be there, putting in everything I have to make it right. Until it’s over – why think if it’s good or bad?

“My last season was an example of how you can get rewarded for that. When you keep working and you give it everything, things will go for you.

“When something goes for you, like it did for me with the equaliser at Brighton, you get more opportunities to play, when you get more opportunities to play, your game understanding hits a different level and you get the confidence back. I believe confidence is the most important thing in sport."

And on life at the club, Beto admitted: "Everton is a club that has really challenged my mind.

"I know I can play, I know I can score, I know I can improve – but the first season here was tough – mentally really tough – then, the second season as well.

“I think I’ve become stronger, mentally. Now I have the mindset that I will just keep going and it will be a sunny day again one day. I can work through anything. I understand that momentum and confidence are a big part of it, too.”

While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has praised Tyrique George and believes all members of the Everton squad will need to contribute between now and the end of the season.

Since his arrival during the January transfer window, the 20-year-old has found gametime hard to come by, but he did make an impact off the bench during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Brentford.

And when asked about his team-mate, Dewsbury-Hall said: “I thought he was a real threat when we came on. He had a couple of good shots, he was driving at his man.

“And look, we are going to need him, definitely for the rest of the games - and other people. It’s not just going to be the 11 who are on the pitch.

“I know what he’s like. When he’s got confidence, when he knows he’s up against his man one-v-one, he’s always going to go at him.

“And I say: ‘Look, just keep doing it. Keep doing it because you’ll create chances'. And he did in the final 20 minutes of the game.

“So, he’s working hard. He’s definitely not sulking. He’s working hard and it shows when he comes on in the game and makes an impact.”
