Liverpool now want to sign the fastest player in the Premier League after Ekitike's injury -…

Liverpool are set to ramp up their summer transfer plans by targeting two new attackers following the devastating injury suffered by Hugo Ekitike on Tuesday night, according to TEAMtalk.

Following a disappointing defence of their Premier League title, Liverpool would have been hoping to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit in their Champions League quarter-final tie against holders Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night.

However, not only were Arne Slot's men beaten 2-0 on the night, and 4-0 on aggregate, by Luis Enrique's visitors, but they also lost Ekitike to long-term injury.

The Frenchman has ruptured his Achilles tendon and, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, could be missing for up to nine months with the injury.

It is another unwanted setback for Liverpool and Slot, who has also been without record signing Alexander Isak for the majority of the campaign because of injury.

With Ekitike potentially out of action until 2027 and Mohamed Salah confirmed to be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, the Reds will accelerate their plans to add to their forward line in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Liverpool Set to Rekindle Anthony Gordon Interest

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are once again seriously considering a summer move for Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon, with the player keen on a switch to Anfield.

The 25-year-old is currently the fastest player in the Premier League having recorded a sprint of 38.2km/h during his side's defeat to Manchester City in February.

The England international has showcased his versatility in a black and white shirt by playing across the frontline, including as a centre-forward.

Gordon racked up 10 goals in the Champions League before the Magpies were eliminated by Barcelona, showing his potential to replace Ekitike both through the middle and out wide.

It has been suggested that Gordon could be one of the players on his way out of St James' Park this summer, but he is unlikely to go on the cheap, with the same outlet previously reporting that they could demand £95m.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano, the Reds could add at least four new faces to their squad this summer.

Who Else Could Liverpool Target?

Everton attacker Iliman Ndiaye

TEAMtalk report that the Reds are also huge admirers of Iliman Ndiaye of Everton, although a move across Merseyside would be a controversial one and the Toffees are unlikely to want to play ball over a potential deal.

The outlet also report that two more Premier League players in West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen and Fulham's Harry Wilson could be targets.

Bowen is in danger of slipping into the Championship with the Irons, while a deal for Wilson would see him return to Anfield five years after he left for Craven Cottage. The Wales international is available on a free transfer this summer as things stand with no progress made on extending his stay with Fulham.

Liverpool are targeting players from abroad too as they look to secure a replacement for Salah, with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande and Francisco Conceicao of Juventus two targets, along with Hoffenheim's Bazoumana Toure.

The Reds were expected to add one new attacker to their squad this summer, but Ekitike's injury is likely to increase the number. Now we wait to see who they identify as their very top targets.
