Since the Saudi PIF’s takeover of Newcastle United back in 2021, the supporters have become accustomed to heavy spending in the transfer market.
Last summer alone, the Magpies spent upwards of £200m on new additions, but due to financial constraints in the Premier League, sales are often required before making any new signings.
Alexander Isak was the player sacrificed last summer as he joined Liverpool for a reported £125m - with such a transfer breaking the English transfer record.

However, Anthony Gordon could be the next player sold by Eddie Howe and Co, as huge rumours swirl about the England international’s long-term future at St James’ Park.
The supporters shouldn’t worry, though, as the hierarchy have already drawn up a shortlist of potential additions to replace the 25-year-old should he depart this summer.
Newcastle make bid to sign £60m star this summer
Over the last couple of weeks, Newcastle have once again been credited with an interest in signing Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia, after previously trying to land the youngster last summer.
The 22-year-old has found minutes hard to come by at the Santiago Bernabeu this term, as seen by his measly tally of just six starts in LaLiga throughout 2025/26.

As a result, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side are said to have sanctioned a move for the Spaniard this summer, which no doubt will have the Magpies on red alert once again.
However, Garcia isn’t the only attacker currently on Howe’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, with Porto star William Gomes another option being considered at present.
According to Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade, the Magpies have already made a bid to sign the 20-year-old forward, who’s netted 14 goals across all competitions.
He also states that whilst it’s unclear if an offer has been accepted for the youngster, he’s a player with huge admirers in the Premier League - with other sides also keen.

The Portuguese outfit are said to be demanding a fee in the region of £60m to allow the Brazilian international to make the next step in his professional career.
Why Gomes would be the perfect Gordon replacement for Newcastle
As previously mentioned, Gordon is a player who could depart Newcastle this summer, with the Englishman subject to huge interest over the last few days.

The 25-year-old’s representatives have already been in early talks with German side Bayern Munich over a potential deal - but there’s also strong interest from multiple Premier League sides.
The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have also expressed an interest in securing his services - which could see the Englishman follow in Isak’s footsteps in moving to Anfield.
It’s unclear how much the Magpies could demand for Gordon’s signature this summer, but losing the attacker would be a huge blow to Howe’s senior ranks.
The forward currently sits as the club’s top scorer in all competitions this campaign on 17 goals, highlighting how effective he’s been in the final third of the pitch.

However, a move for Gomes could see the club land the perfect replacement, with the Brazilian massively catching the eye during the ongoing season with Porto.
His tally of 14 goals demonstrates his ability to find the back of the net just like Gordon, with his underlying figures further highlighting his quality within attacking areas.

Tackles made
Gomes, who’s been labelled “incredible” by talent scout Antonio Mango, has completed 1.8 successful dribbles per 90, whilst registering 5.5 touches in the opposition box per 90.
The latter of the aforementioned tallies ranks him in the top 12% of players in Portugal’s top-flight, subsequently possessing the fox in the box nature that Gordon does.

The Brazilian has also registered 1.4 shots on target per 90 alongside a 40% shot on target accuracy, with both stats also ranking him in the top 5% of attackers in the league.
Without the ball, the 20-year-old has also demonstrated his quality, as he’s made 1.8 tackles per 90, whilst winning the ball 1.1 times per 90 within the final third.
Like his attacking stats, such a trait off the ball is also comparable to Gordon, who’s always been commended for his tireless effort in regaining the ball for the Magpies.
£60m would be yet another huge investment from the hierarchy this summer, but it’s one that could set the attacking department up for
many years to come.

Losing Gordon would be a bitter blow for the supporters, but a deal for Gomes would no doubt be one that could allow the supporters to forget about the Englishman.
His all-round quality at both ends of the pitch could be a huge asset to Howe’s side, with his potential arrival handing the club a top-level talent to help them in their quest for glory.
