**Newcastle United's South American scouting mission continues with the Magpies' scouts identifying players for the first team now.**
Recently, most of the reports coming from our South American scouting network have been of young players coming into Newcastle's development squads.
The Magpies have already [snapped up Ecuadorian wonderkid Johan Martinez](https://nufcblog.co.uk/2026/04/14/ross-wilson-newcastle-have-beaten-off-serious-competition-to-sign-johan-martinez), who will join the club in 2028 when he turns 18, but now it looks as though we're identifying targets for the here and now, too.
Brazilian outlet [Bolavip](https://br.bolavip.com/flamengo/dono-do-newcastle-quer-fazer-acordo-com-o-flamengo-e-contratar-o-meio-campista-evertton-araujo) has claimed that Newcastle have joined the ranks of clubs tracking Flamengo's battling midfielder Evertton Araujo.
Evertton Araujo the latest Brazilian find?
-------------------------------------------
According to the report, Newcastle have been watching Evertton for a long time and are now at the stage of discussing a potential move in the summer, claiming talks are already underway.
Evertton wasn't initially part of Flamengo's starting XI this season, but injuries and suspensions saw him deployed more and more often, and now he looks to have made the position his own.
While not proven in Europe's top leagues, this summer feels like the window we'll need to trust our recruitment team and Ross Wilson to deliver, with £20-30million gems from abroad likely to be targeted over Premier League proven options who come with a premium price tag.
Newcastle aren't alone with their Evertton admiration
-----------------------------------------------------
Newcastle seem determined to find young South American talent to bring them to England and turn them into stars. They missed out on Rayan who went to Bournemouth, but now with Thomas Federspiel positioned in South America, it looks like we're better placed to get to these uncut gems before other potential suitors.
That being said, West Ham have already been linked with Evertton, so Newcastle won't have a clear run.
This move definitely makes sense to us. He's likely to cost around £20 million with rumblings already suggesting £17 million bids are being discussed around Europe, so we'd expect that to rise a bit after a bidding war.
Newcastle could do with another defensive midfielder as Joelinton isn't getting any younger. We're also likely to lose Sandro Tonali in the summer, so we're definitely going to need numbers through the door.
Rumour Rating: 8/10 - We're clearly scouring South America, Evertton has been identified as a player suited to the Premier League. It's a position we need, and it fits the idea of us hunting in lesser-watched leagues for potential gems.
