FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli has thrown his support behind Nigerian striker Terem Moffi despite his recent struggles, while also praising the strong sense of unity within his squad ahead of their decisive UEFA Europa League quarterfinal encounter against Nottingham Forest.
Moffi, who joined the Portuguese side on loan during the winter transfer window, endured a difficult outing in the first leg at the Estádio do Dragão, where he was substituted in the second half after an underwhelming performance.
The Nigeria international was subsequently dropped to the bench during Porto’s 3-1 league victory over Estoril Praia, raising questions about his current form.
However, Farioli remained confident in the forward’s commitment and importance to the team, emphasizing that both Moffi has continued to give their all despite challenging moments.
“Both Francisco Moura and Terem Moffi have been giving everything they have,” Farioli said during his press conference on Wednesday.
“Terem Moffi came off a performance with some mistakes, and Francisco Moura went through a difficult period.
“But at this final stage it’s important to have everyone on board, and that initiative carried out by Jardel made me pleased, as he took both players to the fans. It says a lot about the environment we live in.”
Moffi, who has scored once in three Europa League appearances for Porto, will be eager to rediscover his rhythm when the team travels to the City Ground, as the Portuguese giants push for a place in the semi-finals.
