Manchester United have continued to complain about Lisandro Martinez’s red card in their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Martinez was dismissed for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair, and while the decision may have seemed harsh, referee Paul Tierney applied the rules as written.

Manager Michael Carrick described it as one of the worst decisions he has seen, but it is unlikely that the FA will overturn the red card on appeal.

Gary Neville has also excused Manchester United for being undercooked against Leeds. However, Roy Keane has refused to buy that excuse for their defeat.

Leeds win over Manchester United sparks a heated debate between Gary Neville and Roy Keane

The two former Manchester United stars pitted heads against each other on The Overlap about the way Manchester United lost to Leeds at home on Monday night.

Neville again sought to point out that Manchester United might not have been physically ready for the Whites after playing just once in the last month.

However, Keane refused to buy the excuse and stressed that it is Manchester United’s fault that they are not in Europe this season and crashed out of all the cup competitions early.

Neville said, “You are going to say I am making excuses, and you know what I am going to say.

“They have played like one game in 30-odd days.”

Keane jibed back and said, “Whose fault is that?

“That’s your fault for being that bad last season and getting out of all the cup competitions.”

Daniel Farke won’t care

The manager had asked his Leeds side to get something from Old Trafford, and they delivered in style with their first league win there in more than 45 years.

Farke looked both relieved and delighted at full-time, with the result opening up a six-point gap above the relegation zone with only six games left.

A win at home to Wolves this weekend could go a long way towards securing their Premier League status.

Farke will not worry too much about how the result came, as those three points could be vital in shaping their season.

With survival now within touching distance and an FA Cup semi-final still to come, Leeds fans have plenty to look forward to in the final weeks.
