Report: Liverpool now frontrunners for 'phenomenal' player looked at by Manchester United

Marcos Senesi has been garnering interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United going into the summer.

The 28-year-old, who turns 29 in May, is due to become a free agent at the end of 2025/26 when his Bournemouth contract expires.

Liverpool were linked to Senesi recently, and a new update on the defender now has Arne Slot’s side as the favourites to get a deal over the line.

Liverpool favourites for Marcos Senesi

The centre-back has made 33 appearances and impressed for the Cherries this term, seeing former Liverpool man Danny Murphy single Senesi out for praise on Match of the Day after their shock win over Arsenal.

He said: “Senesi was outstanding. His distribution from the back was phenomenal, progressive passing through the lines.”

Despite the South American having a solid season on the South Coast, The i Paper report that while Man Utd and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the Bournemouth ace, neither Premier League side are planning to make a move at present.

Instead, the report names Liverpool as the most likely destination for Senesi this summer.

Should he indeed move to Anfield, he could potentially reunite with his current manager.

Some are still saying that Liverpool are backing Arne Slot and plan to stick with the Dutchman going into next season.

However, it has also been claimed that Andoni Iraola is liked by some in a position of power at Anfield ahead of the manager, like Senesi, going onto the market after this season comes to a close.

Both current Bournemouth men already have a pre-existing relationship with Richard Hughes from his time at the Vitality Stadium, which could give Liverpool an advantage in their pursuits.

But it has now been reported that Hughes will leave in 2027 along with Michael Edwards.
