Marcos Senesi: Liverpool “most likely” to sign centre-back on free transfer

Marcos Senesi has emerged as a credible target for Liverpool this summer, with Anfield now his “most likely destination” as he prepares to leave Bournemouth.

Senesi has established himself as one of Bournemouth‘s most important players since arriving from Feyenoord almost four years ago – but he will now leave on a free transfer.

That has alerted a number of elite clubs across Europe including Liverpool, as reported by The i Paper‘s Pete Hall and Mark Douglas.

Chelsea, Man United, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham have all been contacted by Senesi’s representatives along with Juventus and AS Roma.

But with a move to Italy seemingly ruled out and Chelsea and Man United looking elsewhere, Liverpool are described as “most likely” to sign the 28-year-old.

This is despite a £60 million deal for Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet already being confirmed and a new contract expected for Ibrahima Konate in the coming weeks.

If Konate were to re-sign that would leave Liverpool well-stocked in defence with Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez also on the books.

However there are question marks over Gomez’s future as he enters the final year of his deal and Senesi could provide much-needed quality and experience in a low-cost move.

Senesi is a left-footed centre-back who has played in 122 of a possible 162 games since joining Bournemouth, with the majority of those missed coming due to a hamstring injury between November 2024 and April 2025.

He played 49 times under Arne Slot at Feyenoord and Richard Hughes was pivotal to his move to Dean Court.

Though he would be available on a free transfer it would still require a financial outlay not only with the Argentine’s salary but also a signing-on fee and payment to his agents.

“It is understood that Senesi has been offered to most of the clubs in contention to play in Europe but is yet to make a decision on where he goes next,” the report explains.

“A ruling is expected to be finalised before the end of the season. His wage demands could rule out some interested parties.”

Italian journalist Gianluca Vitale has claimed on X that Senesi is seeking to double his wages at Bournemouth to around £70,000 a week, which has deterred Napoli but would be easily achievable within Liverpool’s structure.

While the source could be questioned, The i Paper and in particular Hall and Douglas are well-connected when it comes to Bournemouth.

Douglas was central to reports around Liverpool’s move for Milos Kerkez as well as Ben Doak‘s switch to Dean Court and interest in both Dean Huijsen and Antoine Semenyo.

The Big Debate

Would Marcos Senesi be a smart addition on a free transfer?

With Arne Slot already familiar with the Argentine from their time at Feyenoord and Joe Gomez‘s future uncertain, a low-cost move for a left-footed specialist could provide vital experience to the back line.
