Report: Everton on the back foot as Newcastle in pole position to sign £13m right-back

Everton have been trying to sign a right-back for well over a year.

Since David Moyes returned to Everton, signing a new right-back has been a top priority for the Scotsman.

The Toffees were on the verge of signing Kenny Tete from Fulham last summer, but that transfer collapsed at the final stage.

Would this be a good signing on a one-year deal? 🤔

Kieran Trippier question.

Kieran Trippier has been linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in recent weeks, and now there is a fresh update on another full-back Moyes has been targeting.

Everton were linked with signing Zakaria El Ouahdi during the January transfer window, but they were forced to pivot to signing a Jack Grealish replacement in Tyrique George.

Now, according to Belgian outfit Walfoot, the Toffees remain attentive to El Ouahdi’s situation at Genk.

Clearly, Moyes’ recruitment chiefs have been impressed by the wing-back’s performances, as he’s scored 11 goals and laid on three assists this term.

He would be a significant upgrade on Jake O’Brien from an attacking sense, but Everton aren’t alone in their interest.

It’s claimed that Newcastle United lead the race to sign the 24-year-old, as they are seen as concrete suitors.

With Trippier leaving St James’ Park, Eddie Howe is in the market for a suitable replacement, and El Ouahdi fits the bill.

So, Everton will have to fend off stiff competition if they are to land the Morocco international this summer.
