Spotted in training: The forgotten £25m Brighton star who played for Fabian Hurzeler and…

Tottenham vs Brighton in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Saturday, 5.30pm

Brighton midfielder Matt O'Riley has a unique insight on both managers ahead of Brighton's trip to Tottenham.

O'Riley started the first two Premier League matches of the season for Brighton and even scored in the opening day 1-1 draw against Fulham.

The £25m signing from Celtic then struggled in the 2-0 loss at Everton and was soon on his way for a season loan at Marseille.

He teamed up with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and made 25 appearances for the French club, before seeing his spell cut short and returning to Brighton in January.

O'Riley has since struggled to make an impact and featured for just nine minutes in the top flight. He came off the bench in the home defeat to Crystal Palace and then played the final minute of Brighton's 1-0 win at Sunderland.

The Denmark international then missed out on the matchday squads for Brighton's 2-1 home win against Liverpool and the 2-0 win at Burnley last Saturday.

O'Riley is highly unlikely to feature in Brighton's starting XI against De Zerbi's relegation-threatened Tottenham this weekend and he face a major battle just to be included in the matchday squad.

He was though spotted going through his paces in training this week as Brighton look to extend their impressive recent run of five wins from their last six. The Seagulls are ninth in the table and pushing for European qualification.

O'Riley joined Brighton from Celtic in 2024 for £25m and is contracted until June 2029. He has previously been linked with Juventus, Roma, Everton and Atalanta.
