Former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger has been killed in a road accident, at the age of 48.

Manninger spent five years with the Gunners, during which time he won the Premier League, FA Cup and two Charity Shields.

He made 64 appearances, after arriving from Austria, and went on to play for the likes of Juventus before a final season on the books at Liverpool.

Manninger’s first club, Red Bull Salzburg confirmed the news on its official X account.

It said: "We mourn our former goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Alexander."
