Fabrizio Romano shares Marcos Senesi update after Liverpool named favourites to sign him

Marcos Senesi and Liverpool are being linked more strongly as the summer window edges closer, with Anfield now seen as the Bournemouth defender’s most likely destination.

The 28-year-old is due to become a free agent at the end of the season, making him an attractive market opportunity for clubs needing experience and proven Premier League quality. Liverpool’s interest also arrives against the backdrop of uncertainty around Ibrahima Konate.

It was revealed on Thursday that Liverpool are currently leading the race for Senesi, and the latest Fabrizio Romano update only strengthens the feeling that the Reds are in a very good position. With the player keen to remain in England, Liverpool look well placed if they decide to push ahead.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Fabrizio Romano on Marcos Senesi’s desire to stay in the Premier League

Senesi’s contract situation has already made him one of the more interesting free agents on the market, and Romano’s latest comments add further clarity to where the defender sees his future.

As he explained on the Market Madness podcast, the preference is not to head abroad despite interest from Serie A.

Romano said: “So around Senesi, there is a lot of interest. There was a proposal coming from Juventus. But at the moment, the player prefers to stay in the Premier League, so the preference is to continue in England.

“Let’s see what happens there, because there are many links also with Chelsea, with Man Utd, Tottenham. I think it’s going to be really important to understand whether Tottenham stay in the Premier League or not. If they stay up, Senesi can be a serious option.”

That update matters for Liverpool because it effectively pushes Juventus to one side and keeps the battle centred in England. Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been mentioned, but Liverpool look to have the clearest opening right now.

For a player with top-flight experience, strong distribution and no transfer fee attached, it would be a sensible piece of business.

If Liverpool want cover and competition at centre-back, Senesi looks like a good deal.

Marcos Senesi not the only Bournemouth option for Liverpool this summer

Andoni Iraola is set to leave Bournemouth, and he has been framed as a viable managerial option for Liverpool in the event a change is needed in the dugout.

Given the work he has done on the south coast and his existing links with key figures at Anfield, it is easy to see why his name keeps surfacing.

Bournemouth may also have other players on Liverpool’s radar, with Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan both reportedly admired. That only adds to the sense that Liverpool could do plenty of business with the Cherries this summer, but right now Senesi looks like the most straightforward opportunity.
