Gareth Southgate said Everton transfer target is such a 'unique player'

Everton have been linked to several Premier League players over the last few weeks.

Clearly, David Moyes is keen to recruit ready-made and proven Premier League players this summer transfer window.

Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi is on Moyes’ radar, so too is Manchester City’s John Stones, both of whom are set to become free agents.

Gareth Southgate said Everton target Rico Lewis is a ‘unique player’

Everton are showing an interest in Rico Lewis, as Moyes looks to upgrade on Jake O’Brien at right-back this summer.

It’s understood that Pep Guardiola could sanction Lewis’ sale for in excess of £30m, as he’s fallen down the pecking order.

Former England manager Gareth Southgate is a huge fan of the 21-year-old, having heaped praise on him after his Three Lions debut in 2023.

“I thought he was excellent,” Southgate stated.

“His ability to receive in tight areas was a standout. His bravery with the ball, but also the resilience to come back from a bit of a setback that was no fault of his own.

“He’s a unique player because working out the specifics of the role and where that all fits is really interesting. His ability to keep possession and do that well under pressure is a fabulous asset to have.”\

Evidently, if Everton were to sign Lewis, it would indicate that Moyes wants his side to transition into a better footballing team.

The City star would bring a level of calmness to proceedings, rather than an up-and-down attacking wing-back.
