Barcelona reportedly need to offload a big earner in order to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer, with Robert Lewandowski's future unclear at the Nou Camp. The Catalan giants have struggled to register new signings and need to comply with La Liga's Financial Fair Play rules.

Hansi Flick's side have an option-to-buy Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal this summer after impressing on loan. If Lewandowski were to leave the Nou Camp this summer, it would leave Barcelona short of options up front and lacking experience.

Which is where Rashford comes in. There has been some speculation claiming Barca would prefer another loan for the England international, in order to sign him cheaper, but United want to offload the academy graduate on a permanent deal.

There are conflicting reports about Lewandowski's future, however, with some reports claiming Barcelona have offered the veteran a new deal on much lower wages.

AC Milan and Juventus are said to be interested in a move for Lewandowski, which could pave the way for Rashford's permanent departure, if they can reach a financial agreement.

Pin Zahavi, Lewandowski's representative, was in Milan for a meeting with the Serie A club a few nights ago, according to reports in Italy hinting that an exit could be on the cards.

Barcelona are said to be keen on a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, but Rashford would be a much cheaper transfer to get over the line given the pre-agreed fee in the region of £25million.

Marcus Rashford left winger of Barcelona and England controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final Second Leg match between Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona at Estadio Riyadh Air Metropolitano on April 14, 2026 in Madrid, Spain.

Atleti have set an asking price in the region of £175m, with Barcelona unable to pay anywhere near that sort of fee.

The La Liga club have had to be creative in the transfer market and signing Rashford, rather than Alvarez would free up finances to pursue other areas. Flick is a big fan of Rashford and is 'very happy' with the loanee's performances this season.

Speaking earlier this month, the German said: "It's not just about pressing with the ball, you also have to defend, but he's (Rashford) doing things well and has adapted. We're going to play against Atletico and they're good on the wings."

If Barcelona are able to offload Lewandowski's wages, they'd also be given a huge financial boost ahead of any future transfer negotiations.

The La Liga side are also reportedly open to allowing young defender Hector Fort to head to the San Siro as part of the deal to sign Bastoni.

Inter's asking price is said to be in the region of £60million for Bastoni, who is viewed as the ideal addition to add to Barca's fragile backline.
