Anthony Gordon is reportedly ‘keen to leave’ Newcastle, but rumours linking him to Liverpool have been played down by a senior journalist.
Anthony Gordon ‘not on Liverpool’s agenda’ this summer
Two years ago, Liverpool were close to signing Gordon for £75 million until the deal fell through with the clubs failing to reach a complete agreement.
A boyhood Red, Gordon “was desperate to make the move,” according to the Telegraph, and the same outlet now reports the 25-year-old “is keen to explore his options to leave,” but he hasn’t yet told Newcastle officially.
Liverpool’s previous interest in the attacker has brought to the surface rumours linking him to the Reds, but the Athletic‘s David Ornstein doesn’t think it is a move that will happen, at the moment.

The journalist said: “I don’t know of him being at the top of Arsenal‘s list and from what I hear a move to Liverpool is not on his or their agenda, even after the Ekitike injury.”
Bayern Munich are the other club to have been mentioned in connection to Gordon, but Ornstein thinks they will need to sell an attacker because their new signing “won’t want to go somewhere as a back-up.”
It is somewhat hard to believe that joining Liverpool wouldn’t be ‘on his agenda’, given the Scouser wanted to join in 2024 and is looking for a way out of Newcastle.
He is a player Liverpool could target, but probably not for the £80m reported asking price.

Liverpool can complain about mitigating factors all they like, but this season has been undoubtedly below-par and several mistakes have been made.
Danny Gallagher asks whether Liverpool have made any progress from last year’s defeat to PSG:
“Liverpool had plenty of willing on the night, and for this reason many pundits surmised that the Reds would’ve been in a much better position had they turned out performances like that all season.
“But therein lies the issue. Liverpool have good players but no functioning, repeatable system. It’s the exact reason why they haven’t been able to play like this all season, because the script to fall back on doesn’t exist.”

Rest in peace, Alex Manninger
Former goalkeeper Manninger has passed away at just 48 years old after his car was hit by a train at an unguarded level crossing near Salzburg.
Best known in England for his time as a reserve goalkeeper in Arsenal‘s double-winning of 1997/1998, Manninger earned 33 caps for Austria and signed for Liverpool in 2016.
While he didn’t make a competitive appearance in his year with the Reds, the final of his 14 clubs, he helped drive standards in training and was a great influence on younger goalkeepers.
Only recently, he spoke about how he enjoyed finishing his career at Liverpool.
“It all started with a phone call,” Manninger told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Jurgen knew everything about me; two years earlier I had beaten his Dortmund side with Augsburg, ‘I want that goalkeeper.
“‘You saved everything from us that day, you have to do the same to me.’
“In reality I never played, but I was 40. Leaving football and saying goodbye to the Kop fans was a thrill.”
Rest in peace, Alexander.
