Report: Newcastle would want much more than £60m for one of their best players

The idea that Newcastle United could cash in on Anthony Gordon for £60million thankfully seems rather fanciful.

After a difficult season for Newcastle United, Gordon has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich. According to German football expert Florian Plettenberg, the German giants could pay between £52-£60million for the England international.

As if we’d ever accept £60m! 😂

That always seemed cheap, given other reports have claimed that Newcastle value Gordon at around £80million.

The winger has a long-term deal on Tyneside and quite why they would suddenly cash in for that relatively cheap fee made little sense.

Thankfully, Craig Hope has provided a somewhat positive update.

According to The Daily Mail, reports of a £60m asking price fall way short of Newcastle’s actual valuation of Gordon.

Though he has never recaptured the form that made him such a force to be reckoned with in the 2023/24 season, he remains a very high-profile asset.

Gordon has a long-term contract at Newcastle. He’s also a leading Premier League player and an England international, while his performances in the Champions League also surely add to this value.

As such, selling for £60million would feel incredibly cheap.

The report adds that offers are anticipated this summer and that Bayern do hold an interest in the former Everton star.

Newcastle themselves are keen to avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak saga and it’s thought that a parting of ways might be considered best if a suitable offer were to emerge.

As it stands, Gordon hasn’t actually asked to leave the club this summer either.

Gordon has endured another strange season at Newcastle, and remains a divisive figure among the fanbase.

He has scored goals and impressed at times, though there has long been the feeling that he’s never scaled the heights he did at his first full season at the club.

Still, there are several reasons why he should be valued at more than £60million.
