Report: £4m Everton deal now looks off as serious injury occurs during talks

An injury appears to have scuppered a potential transfer for the Toffees this summer.

Reports in Portugal claimed Everton were in talks to sign Kevin Boma from Estoril – with a lowly fee of £4m being discussed between both clubs.

However, an update from Record provides bad news for David Moyes – as the Togo international now looks set to miss months of action due to a muscle injury.

Everton would now be taking a huge risk by proceeding with Kevin Boma deal

The Portuguese news outlet say the central defender is not expected to return to action until the start of next season.

It means Everton would be taking a gamble by proceeding with this £4m deal, on the basis that Boma would most likely miss pre-season under Moyes, a crucial period for every player to prepare for the new campaign, let alone a new signing.

The 23-year-old may also not return as the player he previously was, or could suffer further setbacks along the way during his recovery.

Boma has already missed the last nine games for Estoril due to the injury, and considering Moyes has alternatives to pursue, we doubt an agreement will materialise now.

Arsenal No.4 Ben White is an option for Everton this summer as the England international faces an uncertain summer under Mikel Arteta.

Harry Maguire is admired by Moyes too as the Manchester United No.5 approaches the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford.

The pair of Englishmen will undoubtedly be more expensive than the £4m Boma, but we doubt Everton would be keen to sign an injured player who cannot partake in pre-season, whatever the price.

Michael Keane is set to become a free agent when his contract expires this summer, so if Everton are unable to find a suitable replacement, Moyes may well opt to keep the 33-year-old around for at least another season, in our view at least.

Does Michael Keane deserve a new contract at Everton? 😬

He is currently set to become a free agent in the summer… 👋

Whatever happens on that front, a deal for Boma now seems highly unlikely.
