Tottenham are among several clubs eyeing a move for an experienced Premier League defender.
Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a big blow in their fight for survival in the Premier League, with Cristian Romero ruled out for the rest of the season.
Romero picked up a knee injury against Sunderland and will miss a minimum of six weeks of action, which means he won’t play this term again. There is also a big chance that fans have watched the Argentine for the final time in a Spurs shirt amid intense speculation surrounding his future. Not only Romero, but his centre-back partner, Micky van de Ven, has also been linked with an exit from White Hart Lane.
Ahead of Roberto De Zerbi‘s first full season in charge, the North Londoners are expected to be in the transfer market for defensive reinforcements amid the uncertain futures of Romero and Van de Ven. Luka Vuskovic is set to return after his successful loan spell with SV Hamburger, but Spurs would still require another centre-back.
Marcos Senesi will join Tottenham only on one condition
Recent reports suggest Tottenham are among several clubs interested in signing Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi, who is out of contract at the end of the season and will become a free agent. They have made contact with the representatives of the defender regarding a summer move.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also monitoring the situation of Marcos Senesi closely. After four solid seasons with Bournemouth, the 28-year-old is set to depart in the summer, having decided not to extend his stay at the Vitality Stadium. He is going to be a hugely coveted commodity, with clubs across Europe keen on signing the Argentine on a bargain.
Now, an update on the central defender’s future has emerged. According to a report from Argentine outlet Ole, Tottenham, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea are the four sides showing the ‘most interest’ in Senesi. However, it is mentioned that the left-footed defender will only consider a move to Tottenham if they manage to stay in the top flight.
Senesi would be a valuable acquisition for Tottenham
Senesi’s immediate focus is on having a strong end to the season with Bournemouth and to seal his spot in the Argentina squad for the World Cup in North America this summer. This is the right time for the 28-year-old to take on a new challenge, and a move to Tottenham would be exciting.
The South American star has shown his quality in the Premier League, and he is at the peak of his career. On a free transfer, he’d be a major bargain signing for the North Londoners, whilst being a potential replacement for Van de Ven. However, Senesi, as expected, is not keen on dropping down to the Championship, meaning Tottenham must preserve their Premier League status to have any realistic chance of signing him.
For now, though, it would not be wrong to suggest that clubs like Man United, Chelsea and Villa, as well as the European outfits, are ahead of De Zerbi’s Spurs in the race to sign Senesi.
