Ethan Ampadu‘s leadership qualities on and off the pitch for Leeds United have come to light.
Leeds snapped up Ampadu in the summer of 2023, ending a long stretch of seasons out on loan from parent club Chelsea.
The £7million recruit has since gone on to become a fan favourite at Elland Road, with the Wales international repeatedly answering Daniel Farke‘s call, both in midfield and defence as captain.
This season, he has proven that he can hold his own at Premier League level after previously being in the conversation of too good for the Championship but not up to English top-flight standards.
Ahead of Leeds’ crunch clash with Wolves on Saturday, Ampadu’s status as a Whites figurehead is seemingly growing.

Ethan Ampadu’s player bonus role
According to the Daily Mail, one of a captain’s jobs is to negotiate player bonuses in a pre-season meeting.
After losing in the Championship Play-Off Final to Southampton in 2024, Ampadu spoke for the rest of the squad on this delicate issue.
Ethan Ampadu’s time at Leeds
2023-24 season 54 appearances, two goals
2024-25 season 32 appearances
2025-26 season 29 appearances, one goal
While some skippers can be flanked by senior members of the squad, Ampadu’s reported view was that the players speak with one voice.
The former Sheffield United loanee is said to have told Leeds bosses that bonuses should only be paid out if they got promoted in 2025.
Officials were reportedly impressed, and low and behold, Leeds won the title on the last day of the season, weeks on from securing their promotion.

Moreover, Ampadu is instrumental in regular team visits to the Italian restaurant, The Flying Pizza, which has long been a Leeds haunt in Roundhay.
With him leading this team, Leeds can look forward to an exciting new dawn.
Daniel Farke’s path to becoming a Leeds legend
Ever since Marcelo Bielsa left Leeds in 2022, the Argentine has cast a long shadow at the club.
Managers have come and gone, but none of them have come close to the current Uruguay manager, who helped Leeds end their 16-year stay outside of the Premier League in 2020.
That is, until Farke came along. While the German is still not regarded with as much fondness as Bielsa, he could get close to that, or even match him, with a strong end to the season.
While it is a huge ask, if the former Norwich manager can lead Leeds to their first FA Cup triumph since 1972, or even just the final, along with keeping them in the Premier League, Farke will earn icon status.
If he continues on this positive trajectory, the future for Farke and Leeds is bright.
