Tottenham to battle Liverpool for AC Milan winger on 13 G/A this season

Tottenham are keen to reinforce their wide department in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur focused on strengthening their attack last summer, bringing in Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani for almost £180m. However, they still failed to secure a new left-winger capable of replacing Son Heung-min in the first XI and filling the void he left behind.

As a result, the North Londoners had to rely on options they already had in the squad. It is clear that the Lilywhites need reinforcements in wide areas. Wilson Odobert has suffered an ACL injury and is unlikely to come back again this year, while Brennan Johnson was sold to Crystal Palace during the winter transfer window.

Mathys Tel has endured an inconsistent first full campaign in North London, which is why the club bosses are willing to move for a new left-winger. And it looks like Spurs are planning to raid the Serie A market to reinforce their attacking unit.

Tottenham, Liverpool eye move for AC Milan winger

According to a report from Italian outlet Il Giornale (h/t MilanNews24), Tottenham are interested in signing AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic, but could face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Christian Pulisic enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season, netting 10 goals. But his form has massively dipped since the turn of the year. He is yet to score a competitive goal this year, with the winger’s overall tally for the season reading ten strikes and three assists in 29 appearances. With just one year remaining on his contract, and the club facing budgetary constraints, AC Milan are open to selling the USA international this summer.

Missing out on Champions League football looks a strong possibility for Max Allegri’s side, and that would have a detrimental effect on their transfer spending. Should they miss out on Champions League football next season, the report adds that the Rossoneri may have to accept a transfer fee below the €60m being currently touted for Pulisic.

Should Spurs go for Pulisic?

It cannot be denied that Pulisic has managed to reinvigorate his career in Italy after leaving Chelsea a few years ago. The 27-year-old battled with fitness and consistency throughout his Chelsea career before eventually departing for Milan in 2023. The American star has registered 42 goals and 26 assists in 129 appearances for Milan thus far, and he is currently desperate to break his goal drought in 2026.

From Tottenham’s perspective, they could offer Pulisic regular minutes, along with the opportunity to become a key figure in De Zerbi’s project. The former Borussia Dortmund star would immediately enhance Spurs’ wide department, adding pace, flair, dynamism and energy. The Hershey-born talent’s versatility to operate off the right flank and through the middle as a No.9 makes him more valuable.

However, securing Pulisic’s services will not be easy. Liverpool are also competing for Pulisic, having held a long-standing interest in the winger. With Hugo Ekitike suffering a serious Achilles injury against PSG in the Champions League second leg of the quarter-final tie, the Reds could aggressively go for the Milan ace’s services to bolster their forward department in the summer.

Having failed to showcase his actual potential at Chelsea, Pulisic may feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League and may decide to return. If that happens, Liverpool will have a clear advantage over Tottenham in signing him from Milan. To have a realistic chance of signing the USA international, the Lilywhites must first stay in the top flight.
