Liverpool might already have a solution to Hugo Ekitike’s season-ending injury, with a young Red perfectly poised to come in and support Alexander Isak.
The striker situation at Liverpool finally looked to have resolved itself with the Swede coming back into contention, but Ekitike’s injury has scuppered Liverpool’s plans. Ever since it was confirmed he will miss significant time, there has been a panicked shift in focus to the market, where many believe extra work is now needed.
But we shouldn’t forget about another returning number nine, academy star Jayden Danns, who might well be ready to take the next step as a rare first-team opportunity presents itself.

Liverpool should try out Jayden Danns as a Hugo Ekitike replacement
Danns himself has been plagued by injuries for most of his senior career. The most recent has seen him out of action for most of the season, and Danns’ absence was actually extended just a few weeks ago during his return to Under-21s action.
But he’s due back any day now, and as the only other recognised striker at the club, he should get more of an opportunity in these closing weeks of the season.
Most of the good stuff we saw from the 20-year-old in the senior team was under Jurgen Klopp. He has seldom been available while Arne Slot has been at the club.

Liverpool don’t know how long Ekitike will miss, but it will be long enough that Isak will need some support. Sure, that could come in the form of a new signing — the Reds have been pursuing multiple options — but we shouldn’t rule out the idea of Danns as an able deputy.

On the rare occasion he has been fit, the youngster has been lights out in front of goal.
In just 216 senior minutes, he has three goals. That’s obviously quite impressive, but the eye-test is equally flattering.
Danns is a natural centre-forward who takes up brilliant positions inside the penalty area, has the kind of technical ability and physical intangibles that suggest he can develop into an elite nine at Anfield.

Naturally, the worry with him is injuries. His track record is quite simply woeful. But if he can keep himself fit, this is as good a chance as he will ever get to impact the first team in a meaningful way.
There’s a window after opening with Ekitike’s absence — one that will slam shut again in a few months, unless Danns can make the promotion we are recommending stick.
