Liverpool now the “most likely” side to sign “phenomenal” Premier League player - report

Liverpool are in a strong position to complete the signing of Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi this summer, according to a new transfer claim that has emerged.

The Reds could badly do with an experienced central defender to join the club, in order to improve their depth there next season, following a tough year in that area of the pitch.

It is still unknown as to whether Ibrahima Konate will sign a new deal at Liverpool or not, but a decision has to be made either way soon. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk turns 35 years of age this summer and may need to be managed more carefully moving forward, and Joe Gomez is another who could depart after 11 years at Anfield.

Jeremy Jacquet may be coming in from Rennes, but another defender is paramount, and it looks as though Senesi is a strong option to make the move to Liverpool at the end of the season, with the 28-year-old out of contract at Bournemouth this summer.

According to The i Paper [via *This Is Anfield*], the Reds are the “most likely” club to snap up the Argentine, amid interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham, all of whom have been contacted by the player’s representatives.

[?] NEW: Liverpool have not yet made any formal contact with Marcos Senesi, but he was a player Richard Hughes signed from Feyenoord in 2022 when working at Bournemouth.

Any move for Senesi will likely depend on Ibrahima Konate, who is out of contract in the summer and is yet… https://t.co/lY0Sqa0IRg

Marcos Senesi ticks many boxes for Liverpool this summer

Senesi could be exactly what Liverpool are looking for in the summer window, possessing Premier League experience and even playing 49 times under Arne Slot during their time together at Feyenoord.

That said, it remains to seen if Slot will still be in charge of the Reds when the 2026/27 campaign gets underway. The left-footed Bournemouth ace has consistently impressed for the Cherries, with former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy hailing him as both “outstanding” and “phenomenal”.

At 28, Senesi admittedly isn’t getting any younger, but the fact that he will be available on a free transfer alleviates that issue, ensuring they aren’t spending big on him.

He could be the perfect foil for Jacquet, who is young and raw, giving Liverpool the much-needed extra depth and quality they crave at the heart of the defence, regardless of Konate and Gomez’s futures.
