Moyes looks ahead to Everton's Merseyside Derby

David Moyes is looking forward to the Merseyside derby this weekend as Everton have the chance to close the gap to their city rivals by two points.

The 62-year-old is hoping that his side stays in a strong position between now and the end of the season, as the Premier League European battle is heating up.

Six points separate 6th and 14th in the Premier League, and Moyes is happy that his side have something to play for.

"I think that's the biggest thing for me is with six games to go, we've got something to play for here. Over the recent years it's been the wrong thing we've been playing for but this year, we're getting closer to the stuff you'd hope we'd be involved in.

"I'm hoping we keep it going and we keep that sort of dream alive and see what happens."

Beto's form gives Moyes confidence

Everton's recent man in form has been Beto, who has scored four goals in his last five games, including a brace against Chelsea in the Premier League. Moyes is pleased for the turnaround and praised his work ethic.

"I'm fortunate I get to see him all year and I've seen lots of good signs all year but maybe when it came down to actions on the pitch he just couldn't reproduce what we've seen.

"I think his biggest thing I keep saying to people is his effort to work, his attitude to try and improve is so good.

"So, sometimes I keep saying it, the harder you work the luckier you get and I hope it stays that way for the coming games."

Supporter backing for the derby

On Sunday, the 1878s will be doing another display in a push which will set the tone and help the team on the pitch, something which has the Scotsman's support.

"It's brilliant. We need to rebuild a lot of relationships at the club, mainly with the supporters and any great support which people are putting up and doing it for themselves is fabulous. That's what great football clubs do, the supporters get behind the team ahead of the derby."
