The Marc Guehi snub is still fresh in the memory, but Liverpool might make up for it this summer if they can get a deal for another talented Premier League centre-back over the line.
Man City got the better of Liverpool in that transfer race, and it certainly has hurt the Reds this season. With nothing but a place in the Premier League top five to play for, much attention has shifted to the summer.
Liverpool were named as frontrunners to sign Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth, and while his name might not pop the way Guehi’s does, he might actually be the better option for Arne Slot. That becomes apparent when you dig into their numbers.
Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager?

Marcos Senesi vs Marc Guehi stat comparison
After Liverpool were claimed to be in the lead to sign him, reports circulated on Friday that Tottenham have taken the lead on snapping up Senesi.
While that is disappointing news for those hoping to see him at Anfield, one look at his season statistics suggests that Liverpool should brush Spurs out of the way and push themselves back to the front of the queue.
Bournemouth have regressed somewhat this season after losing multiple key players, including Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, but Senesi has shouldered the defensive load and is having a solid campaign on the south coast.
Guehi has had somewhat of a stop-start season, moving to the Etihad in January where he’s now fighting for a Premier League title. For a fairer comparison, we’ll look at his final season at Crystal Palace — a historic one for the club.

The Bournemouth star has already bested Guehi’s 24/25 campaign, highlighting how underrated he is in the eyes of rival fans.
Guehi is a top-quality centre-back, and his age and leadership make him the admittedly more desirable option, but Senesi’s performances this season have been immense.
For what Liverpool are seeking with this signing — squad depth rather than a long-term starter — the 28-year-old might be the perfect option. There is a relationship with Kerkez already, and he wouldn’t need much time to adjust to the new environment.
From the numbers, you could conclude that Senesi is the better option in every metric but age. Why not take a punt on a free transfer?
