Celtic hold talks to sign 'elite' Premier League star as 'verbal agreement' emerges - report

Celtic have held talks over a move to sign Liverpool star Andy Robertson this summer, according to Sports Boom.

The Glasgow giants have had a miserable campaign so far, with Martin O'Neill in his second spell in charge this season following Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy's poor spells, but the team are still sitting just three points off the top of the Scottish Premiership with five games remaining.

The club are already making plans for the new season, and it has now emerged that they have made a move to seal a big deal for the summer that could get them right back to where they want to be at the top of Scottish football.

Robertson, who has been described as 'elite', announced earlier this month that he will leave Liverpool after nine years at the club when his contract expires at hte end of the season.

It has been reported by Fabrizio Romano that the legendary Scot has a verbal agreement in place with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer, should they avoid relegation to the Championship, after a move in January collapsed.

But now it has emerged that the left-back has also held talks about a sensational return to Celtic Park this summer, that would see his career go full circle following his release in Glasgow back as a 15-year-old.

It has been widely expected for several years that Robertson would end his career at Celtic, and a move this summer would allow him the opportunity to return in a leadership role under whoever the new manager is next season.

The 32-year-old could see a move back to Scotland materialise, in a move that would see the club have one of the best defenders in recent memory added to their squad on a free transfer.

Celtic Move for Robertson Would be Perfect

While Robertson is still capable of playing at the highest level, his age means that he can't be as consistent as he used to be. Celtic's schedule is nowhere near as demanding as Liverpool's, and it would be a great way for him to wind down and also continue to play at the top.

Celtic will be hoping to have European football for next season too, which could help to convince Robertson to join, but financially they won't be able to compete with Spurs.

The board should be pulling on the heartstrings of Robertson to get him into the side, and he would be the perfect leader to have in the squad for any new manager.
