For the first time, Liverpool face Everton at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium as the teams fight for crucial points in the race for European qualification.

Usually, Liverpool go into the Merseyside derby hoping that the cliche of ‘form going out the window’ doesn’t apply to them.
However, it is now the Reds hoping to buck their recent trend in results as the teams prepare to meet for the 248th time.

Like last season, when James Tarkowski’s late equaliser sent Goodison Park into raptures on the occasion of its final derby, this weekend’s clash takes on extra significance.
As the first meeting between Everton and Liverpool at the Blues’ new Hill Dickinson Stadium, it is the first time in the clubs’ history that they won’t be meeting for a league game at Anfield or Goodison Park.
Arne Slot commented: “I think their fans will be loud, as our fans will be loud as well. I think it’s not the stadium itself that makes the difference usually, it’s always the players that make the difference and the fans can have an impact to help the players out, that’s for sure.”
What happened last time we met?

Back when everything was rosy and Liverpool had won their opening five games of the season, Everton came to Anfield and were beaten 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike.
The Reds were excellent before their break and got their own back on the Blues, having had their lead at Goodison controversially wiped out late on five months earlier.
In the second half, Everton got back into the match through a great strike from Idrissa Gueye, but Liverpool held on to remain at the top of the Premier League.
Liverpool team news
The freshest injury update ahead of the match is the news that Joe Gomez won’t be available, therefore putting pressure on Jeremie Frimpong to start his fourth consecutive match.
As you will have heard, Ekitike won’t be available for at least seven months, we expect, after rupturing an Achilles tendon against Paris Saint-Germain.
Alisson is also missing for this game, with the Brazilian not due back until the end of April.
Liverpool starting XI prediction
With Ekitike ruled out, we should see Mo Salah come back into the team for his final Merseyside derby.
He will likely start on the right with Alexander Isak up front, while Cody Gakpo starts on the left – well, the Dutchman or Rio Ngumoha.
At left-back, Milos Kerkez could make way for Andy Robertson, having started four of Liverpool’s last five matches.
This could also be a chance for Wirtz to be rotated after starting each of the last five games.
Predicted LFC XI: Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Mac Allister, Gakpo; Isak

Everton’s new-found home form

Everton‘s success this season has largely been down to their away form, but the results at their new ground have recently improved.
The Toffees have lost six times at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the league, with only the bottom five clubs losing more often at home in the Premier League this season.
David Moyes’ side have won each of the last two on home soil, against Burnley (2-0) and Chelsea (3-0). Should they beat Liverpool, it would be their first time winning three consecutive matches at the Bramley-Moore Dock.
Predicted EFC XI: Pickford, O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner, Dewsbury-Hall; Dwight McNeil, Ndiaye, Beto
Everton team news
Everton have received a boost in the fitness department, with Moyes confirming Charly Alcaraz is involved again.
The attacking midfielder “is back and training now” said the manager before adding: “I think we’re as much close to [fully fit] as we can be.”
Jack Grealish is the hosts’ only other absentee; he will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury sustained in January.

The referee for Everton vs. Liverpool is Chris Kavanagh, assisted by Dan Cook and James Mainwaring, as well as fourth official Andy Madley.
In the VAR booth is Paul Howard, as is his assistant, Sian Massey-Ellis.
This is the fifth occasion on which Kavanagh has taken charge of Liverpool eight times this season, and for the fifth time since early November.

Should Rio Ngumoha score, he would become the youngest-ever Merseyside derby goalscorer at the age of 17 years and 233 days.
Last season’s derby at Goodison Park saw Liverpool name a starting XI without an Englishman in it for the first time in their top-flight history.
Moyes has won one of his last 18 encounters with Liverpool – a 3-2 West Ham victory in London in November 2021 – and two of the last 26.
His teams have not kept a clean sheet in the last 18 meetings, since Man United defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup in September 2013.
