'99.9%' chance Liverpool won't make move for one of Arne Slot's former players despite links - journalist

As the summer transfer window nears, Liverpool are being linked with a number of players they could bring in before 2026/27.

Arne Slot commented on transfers this week when speaking to the media ahead of Everton vs Liverpool and said ‘some changes’ could be made.

However, one player who does not appear close to a move despite recent reports is Marcos Senesi.

Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager?

Liverpool not expected to sign Marcos Senesi

Liverpool were linked to Senesi at the beginning of the week, before a further report then claimed Slot’s side were frontrunners for the soon-to-be free agent. Things took another twist on Friday, with reports that Tottenham are in advanced talks over the signing.

The Argentine has previously worked under Richard Hughes when the Reds transfer chief was at Bournemouth and had one campaign at Feyenoord when the Dutch coach was at the helm.

In turn, a move to Anfield in the next window did seem logical, but Ben Jacobs has now poured cold water on a transfer, saying it’s ‘99.9%’ unlikely unless Ibrahima Konate ends up leaving.

Speaking on The United Stand’s YouTube channel, he said: “We’ve seen some reports that Liverpool are going to enter the race [for Senesi].

“They certainly have discussed, but there’s no formal contact between Liverpool and Senesi yet. So, it can’t be 100% ruled out, but 99.9% at the moment. They’re not moving like other clubs are doing. And I think it would only change if Ibrahima Konate doesn’t extend.”

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Liverpool’s potential alternatives to Marcos Senesi

If a move for Senesi is indeed unlikely, then there are not many other options being mooted for an Anfield switch right now.

Alessandro Bastoni has been linked a fair amount, but FC Barcelona seem to be leading the race for the Italian stopper.

Elsewhere, we now know that Liverpool can activate Nico Schlotterbeck’s release clause up until July 19, 2026.

But with Jeremy Jacquet arriving in the summer and Giovanni Leoni hopefully back from injury before 2026/27, the Merseyside outfit may decide they don’t want to move for a new central defender this summer unless Konate departs.
