Tottenham players have been attracting interest from all across Europe amid a potential relegation scare.
Tottenham Hotspur bosses are hopeful that Roberto De Zerbi can keep the club in the Premier League, but the Italian got his reign off to the worst possible start last weekend as his side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Lying two points from safety, he now has just six games left to ensure Spurs are playing top-flight football again next season, starting against former employers Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
The capital club remain without a Premier League win since beating Crystal Palace on December 28, and they need a huge turnaround in form in their final stretch of games. Should they go down, a mass exodus of players might just happen. Roberto De Zerbi has vowed to stay even if Tottenham suffer relegation, but he will have to do without many stars.
The likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario are among some high-profile players linked with an exit from N17. Now, another key first-team member is understood to be attracting interest from elsewhere.
Liverpool eye summer move for Archie Gray
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Liverpool are keen on signing Tottenham starlet Archie Gray. They are among the youngster’s admirers and could seriously attempt to make a move for him if Spurs go down.
Archie Gray has undoubtedly been Tottenham’s best player since the turn of the year amid a woeful campaign. The midfielder’s strong individual campaign has yielded five goal contributions in 33 games. He has started Tottenham’s last nine Premier League fixtures, demonstrating his consistency, reliability and versatility.
Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the Englishman, who cost Tottenham £40m when signed from Leeds United in 2024. Contracted until 2030, the North Londoners would be able to command a big fee for Gray, who, in reality, is far too good to be playing in the second tier of English football.
Tottenham get boost to keep Archie Gray
Tottenham’s relegation from the top flight would trigger a first-team exodus, with a host of players expected to leave. However, recent reports suggest Gray is among three players willing to stay in N17 if the unthinkable happens. The other two are Conor Gallagher and James Maddison.
If we are to believe those claims, then that would be a great display of loyalty, commitment and love for the club from the 20-year-old. It also shows the kind of character Gray is, and perhaps, having seen his gaffer speak on staying committed to the project regardless of the outcome, he would want to continue as well.
Hopefully, such a situation doesn’t arise, and Spurs remain in the Premier League and manage to keep hold of their best players, including Gray.
