Manchester United’s interest in Julian Nagelsmann could lead to Jurgen Klopp return

Jurgen Klopp has relentlessly been linked with a return to the managerial world this season.

Real Madrid have been linked on several occasions, with a sensational return to Liverpool also been mentioned, given the struggles that Arne Slot has faced this season.

Jurgen Klopp departed Liverpool in the summer of 2024 after 25 years of uninterrupted work as a manager at the pinnacle of European football.

Belonging to a profession that has so much relying on it day in day out will tire anyone out and Klopp labelled a “lack of energy” as a key factor behind his resignation as manager of Liverpool.

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has taken up a role of Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull and despite repeated links to major European clubs, the German has expressed no concrete interest in returning to management.

Having said that, he has never ruled it out completely.

Speaking recently on a podcast, he left the door ajar, but there is a feeling that it would take something special to tempt Jurgen Klopp back into the dugout.

On Peter Crouch’s podcast, the German said: “No, no, no, I obviously have to say not yet because I still have time since I heard Roy Hodgson is coming back [laughs].”

“In this moment, there is nothing, I love what I do. I’m a busy man, which is good, because I’m not good when I have nothing to do to be honest.”

“Can enjoy family, can enjoy spare time, go on holiday but still work. At the moment I miss nothing [about management].”

The former Liverpool manager did return to the touchline on his own terms recently, but that was to take up the role of assistant manager in Liverpool’s most recent Legends match against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield.

Another potential decision involves the German national team.

That is something that has always intrigued Jurgen Klopp and AS have delivered an update that could open up an opportunity for the 58-year-old.

AS report that Manchester United is interested in current Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

The report reads: “In recent days, rumours have appeared around Manchester United’s possible interest in his hiring. At only 38 years old, he already accumulates ten years of experience in the elite of European football.”

The next part of the article is what matters, as AS reveal that if Nagelsmann is hired by Manchester United, then Klopp could consider a return to management.

“If there is a movement around the German bench, Klopp could see the doors open and, in this way, fulfil one of his great goals as a coach, but the truth is that everything is stopped waiting for events.”

“What seems clear that his future and that of Real Madrid will not come together for another season.”

That statement backs up reports earlier this week that Jurgen Klopp is no longer being considered for the Real Madrid job this summer.

It is still a far-fetched idea, but if Nagelsmann was to depart his post as Germany manager, it certainly wouldn’t be before the World Cup and so it could be some time before the cogs get turning on this machine.

Jurgen Klopp has one more dream in management and that is to lead Germany, if that is to ever be the case, you have a feeling that a lot will have to fall into place to make that happen.
