But he guided the Toffees to safety and this season, has the team unexpectedly fighting for European football.

Whether it happens or not, Everton look to be in very safe hands with him at the helm and the future is bright.

But Moyes reckons there’s something Everton need in order to push in – and it’s something that could help get his new contract over the line.

David Moyes wants Everton to keep top players

The Daily Mail produced an interesting piece about Moyes and the effect he’s had at the club since coming back for a second stint.

Long-serving employees feel Moyes is less intimidating in his second spell, and his more laidback style has led to a very happy camp.

Of course at the moment, Moyes is looking to lay the foundations to get Everton back to where they belong.

And one big factor for the manager in achieving this will be to keep hold of top players.

The Daily Mail state that Moyes feels Everton ‘must hold firm when other sides come knocking with big bids for their players’.

They have done that so far with Jarrad Branthwaite, who has previously been on Manchester United’s radar. At the moment though, there is speculation about Iliman Ndiaye’s future. Keeping him will be just as important.

It’s suggested that this could be something decisive in Moyes signing a new contract at Everton.

At the moment, his deal expires at the end of next season.

If The Friedkin Group have not already reached an agreement with Moyes by the summer, then it could well be that what happens in the next window will be significant regarding the manager’s future.

If top players are cashed in on, then it could be that Moyes takes a dim view and won’t be willing to extend.

Hopefully, Everton can finish the season with European football, which would in theory make it a lot easier to retain the best players.
