Liverpool injury news on Giorgi Mamardashvili after the 2-1 win over Everton.

Arne Slot has provided an update on Giorgi Mamardashvili after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Everton.

The Reds won the first Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium courtesy of a 100th-minute header from Virgil van Dijk. The triumph edged Liverpool closer to Champions League qualification as they moved seven points clear of sixth-place Chelsea in the Premier League table.

But the Reds saw another of their players suffer an injury, which has been a common theme of their 2025-26 season. When Beto equalised for Everton in the 54th minute, cancelling out Mo Salah’s first-half opener, Liverpool goalkeeper Mamardashvili - deputising for No.1 Alisson Becker - sustained a wound when challenging for the ball and had to be stretchered off.

Mamardashvili’s setback meant that Freddie Woodman, the Reds’ third-choice keeper, came on for his debut. And Slot heaped praise on Woodman’s display while he hopes Mamardashvili’s setback will not be long term.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Liverpool head coach Slot said: “Is there anything that surprises you when it comes to injuries this season? Maybe I already envisaged it because I had two goalkeepers on the bench today, which I normally don't have but, of course, it has everything to do with the availability of all the other positions. Freddie did a great job.

“Giorgi had to go to hospital, a big wound so let's see how he will be. But Freddie deserves a lot of credit because if you have to come in after conceding the 1-1 and the fans were ready for it but he did his job really well. He kept his calm in a difficult moment when he was doubting whether to catch the ball, yes or no, but kept his nerves.

“He's worked so hard to have this moment and usually third goalkeepers don't play a lot but in a season like ours, I think if you are playing in the under-8s at Liverpool, you should be ready for making your debut because it is unbelievable what is happening to us.”
