Reliable journalist has provided significant Liverpool injury update after stunning Everton win

**Giorgi Mamardashvili was stretchered off in Liverpool’s memorable 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday, with journalist James Pearce providing an update.**

The Reds may not have been at their best in the first-ever Hill Dickinson Stadium derby, but Virgil van Dijk’s 100th-minute secured a priceless victory, much to the delight of [Arne Slot](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/arne-slot-press-conference-every-word-everton-1-2-liverpool-derby-day-mentality-and-more):

_“If I’m correct – but maybe I’m saying something wrong now – it’s been a while since we conceded in extra time. So, at this moment of time, when I see the board going up for extra time, that’s not my first thought. And when I looked at my players it was definitely not my first thought, because I think in that spell we were getting closer and closer to scoring a goal._

_“That’s an unbelievable compliment towards these players because we’ve played five games in 15 days with mainly the same players.”_

Seeing Mamardashvili leave the pitch on a stretcher was a sad sight, though, with Freddie Woodman forced on after the Georgian was hurt when Beto equalised for Everton.

But writing on [_X_](https://x.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/2045951762046034238?s=20) on Sunday evening, Pearce gave a fairly positive update on the Liverpool goalkeeper, saying the hope is that he hasn’t suffered a serious issue.

_“Giorgi Mamardashvili taken to hospital after Liverpool’s dramatic derby triumph. The hope is that it’s just a deep wound rather than any other damage to his knee. Some afternoon for Freddie Woodman, who stepped up in difficult circumstances.”_

**A season of rotten luck with injuries for Liverpool**

-------------------------------------------------------

It would be wrong to blame injuries solely on Liverpool’s struggles this season – there are many reasons for them – but they have suffered such bad luck in that department.

Big-money signings Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni have been struck down with serious issues, and the same applies to Conor Bradley.

Jeremie Frimpong has also had his problems, while Alisson’s injury-prone nature is now a cause for concern, with the Brazilian in and out of the team too often these days.

For that reason, Liverpool desperately need Mamardashvili available for the Premier League run-in, even though Woodman did an admirable job when he came on against Everton.
