Wayne Rooney singles out 'quality' Everton player after Liverpool defeat

Everton suffered a dramatic late defeat to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees were the aggressors for much of the game and deserved to pick up a point at the very least.

But, David Moyes’ side switched off in the 100th minute, as Virgil van Dijk headed home the winner at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

What went wrong there for Everton? 😫

Wayne Rooney heaps praise on Beto’s display vs Liverpool

Beto was a real handful against Liverpool, and he managed to score in his third consecutive Premier League game.

Rooney, speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme, was really impressed with the Toffees number nine.

“He’s had quite a bit of stick since he’s been at Everton, but of late, we’ve seen a better version of him,” Rooney stated.

“He always gives you energy and works hard, but we’re starting to see more quality. This is a really good run across the defender, a really good header and a great save from the keeper.

“He caused Liverpool problems all day. This (goal) is brilliant. It’s poor defending from Liverpool, but it’s his anticipation, willingness, and drive to get into the penalty box and score.”

Beto has now taken his tally up to nine for the season across all competitions, so he’ll be desperate to get into double figures.

The 28-year-old netted 12 times last term and that was viewed as a really productive campaign for the towering frontman.

So, he’s certainly been able to turn around what was deemed a poor season up until recently.
