The goalkeeper left PNE in the summer and made the move to Liverpool
Former Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman made his Liverpool league debut in a last-gasp 2-1 win over Everton.
Injury to Giorgi Mamardashvili, during the second half at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, saw Woodman introduced for his first Premier League appearance as a Red. The 29-year-old left Deepdale upon the expiry of his contract last summer, after three years at the club.
Woodman, who made 138 appearances for PNE, joined the Premier League champions and debuted in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace. He had to wait almost six months for his next game but the wait was worth it.
Speaking to the club website post-match, he said: “Yeah, it was a moment that I was waiting for and I’m probably ready for as well. I trained hard all season and didn’t think it would come. But yeah, obviously amazing... a Merseyside derby and then to win it like we did was unbelievable.
“So yeah, really nice moment for me, nice moment for my family as well. Listen, I’d be lying if said I wasn’t nervous. Being a part of this massive club, you have moments where you’re a little bit nervous. But to be honest as I ran on, I saw the back four and I thought I should be alright!
“They are proper players, so I thought I wouldn’t be too busy and to be fair, they looked after me. It was just unbelievable to make my debut in the Premier League and to win it like we did was special. I’ll just keep doing my role the best I can and that’s exactly what I’ve tried to do all season.”
