Giorgi Mamardashvili provides update after hospitalisation: “I’ll be back soon”

Giorgi Mamardashvili says “everything is fine” after he was hospitalised for a nasty gash during Liverpool’s win over Everton, saying he’ll “be back soon.”

The Georgian was stretched off after his leg took the brunt of Beto’s studs as he put the ball in the back of the net, with the goalkeeper sent straight to hospital.

Mamardashvili had a sizeable open wound just below his left knee, which club doctors wrapped before he was taken off the pitch.

Arne Slot could not offer a verdict on a return timeline soon after the victory, and while neither did Mamardashvili, he took to Instagram to give an update on Monday morning.

He penned: “Thank God everything is fine. Thank you all so much for your support and for being by my side.

“I’ll be back soon. Big win in the derby and 3 points.”

Mamardashvili likely had his wound stitched, and typically they stay in for up to two weeks to help the healing process, with patients advised not to do activity that stretch or pull the skin.

It strongly suggests he will not be expected to be involved against Crystal Palace on Saturday, meaning another goalkeeper change for Slot.

Will Alisson be fit to return vs. Crystal Palace?

Alisson has been targeting a return in late April from a hamstring injury, and the Eagles’ visit is the last match of the month, but he will need to prove his fitness in training if he is to feature.

If it is still too soon for the Brazilian, Freddie Woodman will be in line for his first Premier League start for Liverpool against the same opponent he made his competitive debut against.

The 29-year-old started the 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Palace in October and has since primarily offered his services in training as the third-choice goalkeeper.

His role was brilliantly commended by Andy Robertson during his post-match interview with All Red Video, saying: “He’s a credit to himself. Since he’s come in, he’s been unbelievable.

“Whether that’s Mo Salah wanting to stay out and do penalties for an hour after training, Woody’s the one that’s out there.

“He’s always there for everyone, he’s always there to support. These people in a club like this are so important, maybe don’t always get the credit they deserve, don’t always get the limelight and things like that.”
