Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, and now a fresh exit claim has emerged from journalist Pete O’Rourke.
In a season full of Reds players underperforming, Mac Allister has been up there as the most disappointing individuals, looking older than his 27 years.
Too often, the Argentine has lacked dynamism at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield, and it has played a big part in their struggles throughout the campaign.
Various reports of late have backed Mac Allister to leave Anfield at the end of the season, with Real Madrid among those in the mix, despite his father playing down talk of a summer exit:
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is. We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”
Now, speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke has said that there is still a fair chance of Mac Allister moving on, among other Liverpool players, with Madrid’s interest not going away:
“I’m sure there’s a few players who will be moving on from Liverpool this summer. Alexis McAllister, there’s been suggestions that he could move on as well, his future is not certain.
“There’s been no contract talks held with him over a new deal, that hasn’t progressed at all, and there is ongoing talk of interest from Real Madrid. There’s uncertainty about a few players in that Liverpool squad, not just him, and it looks like it could be another busy summer for them.”
Would Liverpool be wise to sell Alexis Mac Allister?
Liverpool have a big decision to make with Mac Allister, with the midfielder so impressive in his first two seasons, but a shadow of himself this time around.
At 27, there is an argument to say that selling him would be a risk, with the World Cup winner potentially just experiencing a tired year before returning to his best, having seen his “great game intelligence” lauded by Arne Slot in the past.
It does feel hard to see that happening, however, so Liverpool should consider accepting an offer if it arrives from Madrid, using the funds to bring in a younger replacement.
Crystal Palace and England ace Adam Wharton feels like a standout and viable option, bringing the legs that Mac Allister can’t now, as well as the Argentina international’s class on the ball.
