Liverpool hold Premier League record by tormenting Everton after 90th minute

Liverpool have the most winners from the 90th minute against a single opponent in the Premier League era, and it just so happens to be at the expense of Everton.

It never gets old scoring at the death to snatch all three points from them, does it?

Remarkably, the late win off Virgil van Dijk‘s head was the sixth time in Premier League history Liverpool have scored a winning goal from the 90th minute onwards against Everton.

As per Opta, it is the most winners one side has against a single opponent after the clock has struck 90 in the competition’s history.

We have been blessed.

The first of the six winners was back in 1993, when Ronny Rosenthal scored in the 90th minute after coming off the bench at Anfield to secure a 1-0 win.

The only other late league winner at Anfield in the derby was the famous Jordan Pickford blunder that gifted Divock Origi a close-range finish and sent Jurgen Klopp into the arms of Alisson in 2018.

The remaining goals all had the pleasure of finding the net in front of Everton‘s home fans.

First, with Gary McAllister’s stunning free-kick in 2001, then Dirk Kuyt’s penalty in 2007 and, lastly, Sadio Mane‘s rebound in 2016, all at Goodison Park.

Van Dijk inflicted new torment, however, by landing the latest-ever blow in the first derby at Everton‘s new stadium, which will forever be etched into the history books.

It is no wonder they would be a little bitter as the Reds continue to discover new ways of piling on the misery.
