Wayne Rooney says it's 'always hard' to see one Liverpool player especially score against Everton

Wayne Rooney did not enjoy watching Everton lose to Liverpool in dramatic fashion, and especially not seeing Mohamed Salah on the scoresheet.

Salah and Virgil van Dijk scored the decisive goals, with the Egyptian matching Steven Gerrard’s derby total of nine in what was his last ever game against Everton. A stunning Cody Gakpo assist found Salah darting into the penalty area, and it was a routine finish from there.

Rooney has been harassed by Liverpool fans since the loss and did not feel like going into massive detail, but he did address Salah and the damage he has done to Everton over the years.

Wayne Rooney is sick of seeing Mo Salah against Everton

Rooney made it clear he has huge admiration for the Egyptian, even if seeing him score against Everton never gets any easier.

As he explained on The Wayne Rooney Show: “I’ve got so much respect for Mo Salah. I think over his career at Liverpool, he’s been fantastic and one of the best players ever to play in the Premier League and so you’d expect him to score goals against a lot of teams.

“So yeah, it’s always hard on Derby day when he scores, but no, his legacy in this Premier League and Liverpool no one will be able to deny that.”

Luckily for Rooney, this should be the last time he has to watch Salah score against Everton in a Liverpool shirt.

Say what you want about Salah’s form this season, but he was always going to have a say in this fixture, and that air of inevitability is going to be a huge loss for Liverpool.

Luckily, he still has time to do it a couple more times before he leaves Anfield.
