Former Real Madrid captain urges"extraordinary"Liverpool player to move to Real Madrid this summer

Mohamed Salah has been urged to move to Real Madrid this summer when he leaves Liverpool on a free transfer.

The emotional exit of one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players draws near, with Salah set to bring a close to nine years at Anfield when Brentford visit Merseyside on 24 May.

Salah made a snide remark about Arne Slot this past weekend, signalling there is ongoing discord between the pair.

Speaking after Liverpool beat Everton in the Merseyside derby, Salah commented in a post-match interview, suggesting only Slot could explain how few starts the Egyptian has made this season.

Salah urged to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer

Salah is by no means finished at the elite level. Despite this being his worst season for Liverpool, Salah has 12 goals and nine assists.

Former Real Madrid captain Fernando Hierro has urged Salah to join Madrid, stating that anything is possible in football. Salah is yet to pick a club with his options for the summer wide open.

Hierro said: “Why not? Of course, I would like it. Mohamed Salah is an extraordinary player in every sense.”

“No one can deny his great impact at Liverpool and his achievements. I would love to see him at Real Madrid; everything is possible in football,” he added.

While discussing what Salah could offer to Real Madrid at 33, Hierro added: “Salah is the kind of player any club in the world would want to sign because he is exceptional and has a direct impact on the game.

“He’s not just a great player – he’s a true football phenomenon who makes the difference wherever he is.”

Liverpool will struggle without Salah unless a superstar replacement is found

While the 2025-26 season has seen people level unjustified criticism at Salah, there is no denying his success with Liverpool. A two-time title winner with the Reds, his numbers are staggering: 257 goals and 122 assists.

However, Liverpool will struggle to find a worthy replacement.

The only player in Europe who seems like a good fit to replace him is Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise. His goal against Real Madrid in the dying moments of the Champions League quarter-final second leg was simply outstanding.

Olise has 18 goals and 29 assists this season, but will cost north of £120m for interested clubs. One report claims that Bayern will not sell even at the mind-boggling price point of £174m.
