Alisson Becker has missed Liverpool’s past six matches because of injury.
The Reds have a goalkeeper problem after Giorgi Mamardashvili was forced off in the 2-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton. Mamardashvili was accidentally caught by Toffees striker Beto when he equalised. The former Valencia stopper needed a stretcher to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium pitch and taken to hospital after suffering a wound.
With Alisson sidelined with a hamstring injury, third-choice stopper Freddie Woodman had to be introduced for his debut following his arrival from Preston North End on a free transfer last summer.
Liverpool’s triumph, courtesy of Virgil van Dijk’s 100th-minute header, moved them seven points clear of Chelsea in the pursuit of Champions League qualification. But with five games remaining in the Premier League, the Reds know that their task is far from complete while they will be hoping to build momentum ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Slot’s side are next in action when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on Saturday. Mamardashvili could be doubtful to feature but there is a chance Alisson, who has missed the past six matches could be back to face the Eagles.
Speaking to LFCTV, Reds head coach Slot said: “We’re hoping he could maybe start somewhere during the week his team sessions again. Let’s see when that is and then what the right decision is to make.
“The good thing is, we have had our problems in so many positions. Now, we have three goalkeepers so we don’t have three full-backs, three number nines of three goalkeepers but we have three goalkeepers.
“I have to give a big compliment to Freddie because it was a difficult moment to come in, we had just conceded the 1-1 but he was calm and did his job as he needed to do. One time, it was a bit close but that was a foul on him and the fourth official told me he [referee Chris Kavanagh] would have blown his whistle if the ball had gone in - which I’m not convinced about, by the way, but he did tell me!”
