Liverpool told 'quality' player will cost more than expected in summer transfer window - journalist

Yan Diomande could become one of the most expensive signings in the history of Liverpool if he moves this summer.

For a while now, it has been suggested that €100m (around £87m) would be enough to land Diomande from RB Leipzig.

However, with the German outfit having a positive end to the 2025/26 season, that price tag could now be set to rise to more than €100m.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

RB Leipzig now want more than €100m for Yan Diomande

Diomande, who has been called ‘quality’, has helped Leipzig win their last four Bundesliga games.

That has been enough for them to climb up to third in the German top flight and five points clear of fifth place.

In turn, Leipzig are in a much stronger position when it comes to the future of the Liverpool target and have decided to raise his price-tag, as Philipp Hinze has explained on X/Twitter.

He wrote: “RB Leipzig are now demanding more than €100m for Yan Diomande. Since qualification for the Champions League is very realistic, Leipzig no longer have financial pressure to sell. Diomande’s value is rising.

“The €20m transfer fee paid to Leganés last summer has, in the club’s view, more than quintupled in value. Meanwhile, Leipzig are planning a contract adjustment, including a salary increase, to keep Diomande until 2027. Leipzig are fighting to retain the Ivorian for another season. But: Diomande is not untouchable. Depends on potential offers.”

Diomande has 13 goals and eight assists in 32 games this season, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be willing to sanction another big-money move this summer after spending in excess of £100m on both Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak last season.

Bazoumana Toure could be an alternative option if the Reds decide that Leipzig are asking too much for the player.

Hoffenheim want a club record fee for Toure, but that could still be less than the cost of signing Diomande, given the German outfit’s current record sale is Joelinton to Newcastle United for around £40m.
