"Hoping to be back..." - James Pearce has handed Liverpool much-needed injury boost

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is “hoping to be back” from injury for a massive upcoming game, according to reliable journalist James Pearce.

The Reds have had to battle injury problems all over the pitch throughout this season, from right-back woes to big-money strikers picking up serious issues.

Now, Liverpool have a headache in goal, with Alisson unavailable still out and Giorgi Mamardashvili being stretchered off during Sunday’s 2-1 win away to Everton in the Premier League.

It meant that third-choice ‘keeper Freddie Woodman had to come on, doing an admirable job in a tough game, but him playing every week isn’t going to be ideal, with all due respect.

Writing on X on Monday, Pearce claimed that Alisson should be back for the trip to rivals Manchester United on May 3rd, also giving an update on Mamardashvili:

“Giorgi Mamardashvili will miss at least a fortnight (could be up to 4 weeks). LFC He’s out of hospital & recovering. It means Freddie Woodman is likely to continue against CPFC. Alisson hoping to be back for Man Utd away.”

Potentially huge few weeks for Freddie Woodman

Knowing that Alisson will hopefully be back for the United game is a big boost, but until then, the pressure is on Woodman to step up for Liverpool as they look to secure Champions League football.

As mentioned, the 29-year-old was solid against Everton, and Andy Robertson has made it clear what a good addition to the squad he has been:

“He is a credit to himself. Since he has come in, he has been unbelievable. Whether that’s Mo Salah wanting to stay out and do penalties after training, Woody is one there doing that with him. Whether it is running after the game where the lads have been dragged out, like I’ve done [after the game] at PSG, and he is always there to do it and to support.”

The absence of both Alisson and Mamardashvili means Woodman will start on Saturday at home to Crystal Palace, but that is the only match before United.

But there is always a chance that Alisson won’t recover in time for the Old Trafford showdown, especially given his injury-prone nature, so Woodman must be ready to potentially start another huge game.
