The latest Liverpool injury updates as the Reds push on towards Champions League qualification

Liverpool’s push for Champions League qualification got an almighty boost last weekend, as a late surge from Arne Slot’s side saw them snatch a dramatic 2-1 away win against local rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby. Skipper Virgil van Dijk was the hero of the hour, outmuscling the opposition defence before deftly nodding home a close-range header.

The Reds now sit fifth in the Premier League table, a whole seven points clear of Chelsea in sixth, and look on track to secure Champions League football for the ninth time in the past ten seasons. Fifth place will be enough to ensure they get the job done, and with just five matches of the campaign left to go, Liverpool - whose new kit for next season is said to have been leaked online already - are very much on the home stretch.

Next up, Crystal Palace head to Anfield on Saturday afternoon in what will be another prime opportunity for the Reds to pick up three points. Ahead of their next fixture, we’ve rounded up the latest Liverpool injury news and updates:

Liverpool injury news update - goalkeepers and defence

Giorgi Mamardashvili (knee) - The Georgia international was stretchered off the field of play in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Everton, after suffering a brutal gash to his knee. Slot revealed earlier the week that the goalkeeper had gone to hospital, but that it would not be a “long-term injury”. Expected return date: May 3rd vs Manchester United.

Alisson (hamstring) - Another goalkeeper stuck on the sidelines, Alisson hasn’t featured for over a month, after suffering a hamstring injury. The player addressed the uncertainty over how long he could be out for on social media earlier this month, revealing that he was targeting a return before the end of April. Expected return date: May 3rd vs Manchester United.

Joe Gomez (unknown) - Little is known about the 28-year-old’s current injury status. He was ruled out of last weekend’s Merseyside derby, but Slot didn’t elaborate on what his issue was. Despite his latest setback, Gomez has racked up over 1000 minutes of play for Liverpool this season, including 17 Premier League appearances. Expected return date: unknown.

Conor Bradley (knee) - It’s been a deeply frustrating season for the Northern Ireland international, who sustained a serious knee injury against Arsenal back in January. He’s currently working hard on his recovery, but the right-back won’t play again this season, instead targeting a clean bill of health ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Expected return date: pre-season.

Giovanni Leoni (knee) - Signed last summer, the Reds had hoped the towering defender would spend a year gaining valuable experience from Van Dijk. An ACL injury back in September scuppered those plans, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Like Bradley, he’ll be working hard to get back up to speed over the summer months. Expected return date: pre-season.

Liverpool injury news update - midfield and attack

Wataru Endo (ankle) - A serious ankle injury picked up against Sunderland back in February means the former VfB Stuttgart stalwart won’t play any further part in Liverpool’s season. Japan’s skipper is, however, hoping to feature at this summer’s World Cup, but he’s taking a risk with only pre-tournament friendlies left to build match fitness. Expected return date: pre-season.

Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) - He suffered a torn Achillies tendon against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month - one of the most serious injuries a footballer can suffer. Given the severity of Ekitike’s injury and Mohamed Salah’s imminent departure, the Reds are expected to spend big on reinforcements come the summer. Expected return date: January 2027.

Jayden Danns (thigh) - Slot addressed the England youth international’s extended absence last week, revealing he’d been getting some game time for the U21s, but still hasn’t managed ninety minutes since injuring his thigh back in March. He could well put in a cameo appearance late in the season, but the exact chances of that remain unclear. Expected return date: unknown.
