Yan Diomande: Liverpool hold “concrete talks” to sign €100m Mo Salah successor

Yan Diomande is emerging as Liverpool’s primary candidate to replace Mo Salah, with sources in Germany and Merseyside reporting interest in the Leipzig winger.

Yan Diomande to Liverpool: Latest Transfer Update

The Top Target: Liverpool are reportedly “leading the charge” for Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who has emerged as the primary candidate to succeed Mo Salah.

The Price Tag: While Leipzig are demanding upwards of €100 million (£87.2m), concrete talks have already taken place with the 19-year-old’s representatives.

Double Swoop?: Interest remains high in Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure; with Diomande favoring the right and Toure the left, the Reds could target both.

Reliable Sources: Sky Germany’s reports have been corroborated by Paul Joyce and Vinny O’Connor, confirming Diomande is a major name on the club’s shortlist.

Diomande is widely expected to leave Leipzig this summer despite the Bundesliga club’s insistence he would only do so for upwards of €100 million (£87.2m).

The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international is subject of interest from Liverpool among others, with Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg reporting they are “leading the charge.”

He is described as their “top transfer target” with a “strong desire to sign him,” and it is even claimed that “concrete talks” have taken place with Diomande’s representatives.

Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest but Liverpool hold a “clear lead” in their efforts to sign the winger.

Sky Sports‘ Merseyside reporter Vinny O’Connor and the Times‘ Paul Joyce are among those to corroborate claims of interest from Anfield, though they have not gone as far as reporting contact as of yet.

Leipzig are looking to renegotiate Diomande’s contract with a pay rise and extended terms, but all signs point to a move from the Red Bull Arena.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to meet Leipzig’s price tag but it is almost certain that they would look to bring it down if they do push to sign the former Leganes forward.

That may even be why reports from closer to the club are less effusive when it comes to their interest in Diomande, who is considered one of their options.

Liverpool could sign TWO Ivory Coast wingers

Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure has also been linked, with Sky Germany claiming contact with the Bundesliga side over a possible €43.5 million (£37.9m) deal.

However Diomande has primarily played on the right wing this season while Ivory Coast team-mate Toure is more frequently seen on the left.

This may suggest that Liverpool would look to sign both players, as it could certainly be argued that two wingers are required this summer as Salah departs and Hugo Ekitike recovers from a ruptured Achilles.

Bazoumana Toure (Hoffenheim) 28 3 11 0.57

Right-footed Diomande and left-footed Toure are both capable of playing on either wing and that flexibility could aid the Reds as they look to add pace, dynamism and unpredictability out wide.

Diomande has scored 13 goals and laid on eight assists in 32 games in his debut season at Leipzig, while Toure has scored three and assisted 11 in 28 games for a Hoffenheim side pushing for a Champions League spot.

The Big Debate

Should Liverpool spend big to land both Diomande and Toure?

With Mo Salah departing and Hugo Ekitike sidelined, the Reds face a massive rebuild up front. While Yan Diomande is the priority for the right, bringing in Bazoumana Toure as well would cost over £125m combined – but it would completely revitalise their attack with two of the Bundesliga’s brightest talents.
