BBC Sport: David Moyes 'likely' to approve Everton exit after recent setback suffered

Everton are expected to allow Tyler Onyango to depart as a free agent this summer.

Once again, there are a number of players at Everton whose futures hang in the balance ahead of their current deals expiring.

Onyango is one of those players having spent the season out on loan with Stockport County before suffering his injury setback.

Tyler Onyango set to leave Everton this summer

Onyango suffered a serious hamstring injury, which has curtailed his season at Stockport following a promising stint in League One.

The 23-year-old had made 10 starts in the league under Dave Challinor.

However, BBC Sport now believe it is ‘likely’ that Onyango will depart the Toffees this summer as a free agent.

Onyango has played 33 minutes of football across five appearances for Everton’s senior side over the years.

The midfielder has been on Everton’s books since he was just eight years old, with his senior debut coming in the FA Cup at the age of 17.

With his options on Merseyside extremely limited, Onyango has enjoyed a number of loan spells in recent years.

Now it looks as if his time has come to find a new home and secure himself regular football.

Another Everton academy graduate set to depart

Onyango’s expected departure only highlights the growing concern at Finch Farm surrounding academy players failing to make an impact on the senior side.

David Moyes wants more academy players in his first team, but Everton must provide him with players capable of having an effect.

Plans are being put in place to provide the academy with more of an opportunity to develop their in-house talent.

The Friedkins recently hired Dean Rastrick as Everton’s academy director, hoping he can help bridge the gap to the senior side.

There is clearly a big gap still between the U21s and Moyes’ senior squad.
