Arne Slot “expected to continue” as Liverpool head coach

Arne Slot is “expected to continue” as Liverpool head coach next season, claim Sky Sports, with the Dutchman set to achieve the “bare minimum” target.

Liverpool took a step closer to securing Champions League football with their 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, on a weekend that saw Chelsea drop more points to Man United.

But there remains a growing unrest around Slot’s position as head coach, with supporters increasingly agreed in their stance that he should leave the club.

However, Sky Sports’ Vinny O’Connor reports on Tuesday that he is “expected to continue” in his leading role heading into next season.

Doubts over Slot are claimed to be “subsiding rapidly” as Liverpool near their “bare minimum” objective of qualifying for the Champions League via their Premier League placing.

“Slot is set to retain the support of the hierarchy ahead of a summer in which more work is expected to be done to the squad following the announcement Mo Salah will be leaving,” Sky Sports‘ report reads.

“RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is among their top targets for a new forward while several other positions are also being looked at.”

When Does Arne Slot‘s Liverpool Contract Expire?

**Arne Slot**‘s current Liverpool contract expires on June 30, 2027. The Dutchman signed a three-year deal upon his arrival from Feyenoord in the summer of 2024.

Slot is currently 22 months into his 36-month contract.

This follows wider messaging from local and national journalists that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group retain their faith in Slot despite a miserable second season.

However, it is certainly not emphatic, with “expected to continue” far from confirmation that a head coach with only year left on his contract this summer is safe in his job.

Speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic FC Podcast, leading journalist David Ornstein added to this by explaining that “ideally” FSG would like to keep Slot.

“The ownership there ideally want to stick with Arne Slot despite huge public conjecture over whether he’s the man to lead them forward,” Ornstein said on Monday.

“The only name people seem to come up with is Xabi Alonso, but the suggestions are that he’s not on Liverpool’s radar.

“It’s all well and good being dissatisfied with the person you’ve got, but who should you bring in to replace him?”

Reports in Germany have previously claimed that Alonso would be open to taking the position and that there was in fact interest from Anfield in the ex-Liverpool midfielder.

Another viable candidate has recently confirmed his availability with Andoni Iraola – who was admired by the club’s recruitment team before they chose Slot – announcing he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.
