Ibrahima Konate has confirmed that he is close to signing a new deal with Liverpool, and now it seems Dominik Szoboszlai will be the next in line despite recent concerns.
On Sunday, Konate told reporters a contract agreement with Liverpool is ‘close’ after months and months of talks.
We published an article on Monday discussing some worrying comments from Szoboslzai about his own contract renegotiation talks.
The midfielder said that there has been ‘no real progression’ in talks with Liverpool over a new deal beyond his contract expiring in 2028.
He said: “Of course I see myself here in the long term, but as I say, it is not really in my hands anymore. I love being here, as I said many times; I love the fans and I really like to be here. My family is happy. I’m completely relaxed.”
Fabrizio Romano shares details of Liverpool’s ongoing contract talks with Szoboszlai
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Liverpool’snegotiations with Dominik Szoboszlai are still ongoing at this stage – deal on.”
Reporting via YouTube, Romano said: “Dominik Szoboszlai has also addressed his contract situation, but with a different tone.
“My understanding is that negotiations between Szoboszlai and Liverpool are ongoing. They are not collapsed, nor are they at an advanced stage yet. There is still work needing to be done, but it’s not very far between the two parties.
“The discussions are positive, and there is no significant gap between the parties, but more work is required before reaching the final stages, as Liverpool have done with Konate.
“I would not spread negative messages about the conversation between Szoboszlai and Liverpool.”
Liverpool must fast-track contract talks to avoid 2027 Szoboszlai saga
The 2025 Premier League title triumph was incredible, but many match weeks were overshadowed by the speculation and uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract. Liverpool extended terms with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but the lack of clarity was a negative about the season.
This season has seen the contract standoff between Liverpool and Konate permeate throughout the season. A renewal is now imminent but it cannot be repeated.
If extending Szoboszlai’s contract is a priority, Liverpool must act as such. He is far to good to be allowed to enter the final two years of his contract.
If next season is overshadowed by another contract saga, Konate’s cryptic comment about Liverpool’s new contract strategy may be true.
