'Such a temptation' - Pat Nevin expects Rangers-linked defender to consider Premiership switch

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has been linked with Rangers, Celtic and Tottenham this summer.

The Scotland international will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season as his deal at the Merseyside club will be running out.

Rangers want to sign Robertson, as Jayden Meghoma will be returning to Brentford once his loan deal expires at the end of June.

Pat Nevin believes Andy Robertson will consider Scottish Premiership move

Pat Nevin thinks that the Championship is a big step down for Andy Robertson if he is to join Tottenham and they get relegated.

Spurs find themselves in 18th place in the Premier League and are two points clear of safety.

Roberto De Zerbi has been hired, but he is yet to get his first win in charge of the North London club.

In Nevin’s view, Robertson has the option of playing in the top level in Spain, Scotland, or anywhere else, and could opt against playing in England’s second tier.

This certainly would come as welcome news for the two Old Firm sides.

Nevin told the Daily Record: “It’s a big step down [the Championship], but not in terms of being too posh to play that low, but the glory that he’s had so many times, that’s a big call.

“There are very, very few players of that ilk and that standard that, given the opposite, and the fact that we’ve heard that there’s a possibility of staying in the top level in Spain, or staying in top level in Scotland, or staying in the top level somewhere else, it’s such a temptation.”

Will Robertson be open to joining Rangers?

Robertson was at Celtic between the ages of nine and 15, and grew up supporting the Parkhead outfit.

However, he did not make a senior appearance for the Hoops, starting his professional career at Queen’s Park.

That being said, if both teams make a move for him, he is likely to fancy Celtic over a switch to Ibrox.

What could work in Rangers’ favour is that if they win the league and are playing in the Champions League next season, the Scottish defender would fancy the challenge.

As things stand, the Light Blues remain rank outsiders in this transfer chase and are yet to contact the left-back over a potential move.
