Everton now get second chance to finally sign 'global star' for free after rejection, amid…

Everton took Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea in February, but The Friedkin Group almost signed another attacker as well.

TalkSPORT claimed on deadline day in February that Everton spoke to Raheem Sterling about a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium after he was released by Chelsea.

The England international ultimately rejected Everton in favour of a move to Feyenoord, feeling he would receive more playing time in the Netherlands – despite talkSPORT saying he holds a lot of admiration for David Moyes.

Sadly for Sterling, the move has not panned out as he would have hoped, making just six appearances with only one assist to show for his efforts, and Algemeen Dagblad now claim that Feyenoord plan to release the forward at the end of the season.

Everton to get second chance at Raheem Sterling deal

The Dutch news outlet believe Feyenoord have no plans to keep the former Manchester City star beyond the current campaign.

Sterling – who Algemeen Dagblad describe as a ‘global star’ in their report – only signed a short deal running until the end of the season back in February, but having failed to convince Robin van Persie, he is set for a swift return to free agency.

Everton fans will question why the 31-year-old would be good enough to play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium when he hasn’t even been able to impress for Feyenoord.

However, Moyes likes to bring experienced players into his squad, and often gets a lot out of them.

While most clubs aim to find the next best thing nowadays and invest fortunes into potential, the Glaswegian often prefers proven quality such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who is arguably the Player of the Season for Everton this term.

Moyes also wanted Harry Maguire at West Ham and remains keen on the 33-year-old at Everton even now, according to The Daily Briefing. Furthermore, the 62-year-old would also like a reunion with Tomas Soucek this summer if West Ham go down, who is 31 years of age.

Sterling – who Jack Grealish defended – is also 31, and in fairness to the man born in Kingston, he was not given a single second of action in the first half of the season at Chelsea after falling out with Enzo Maresca. Therefore, this move to Feyenoord was always going to be tricky without any match sharpness.

With some football in the Netherlands under his belt and a full pre-season under Moyes, the QPR academy graduate could well offer Everton something useful next term if a deal materialises.
