Andy Robertson says Scotland can’t bask in their Hampden glory night against Denmark forever - insisting it’s now time for them to make more Tartan Army memories at the World Cup.

The national team skipper collected the William Hill Scottish Football Writers’ Association Men’s International Player of the Year award on behalf of the WHOLE squad.

For the first time ever, the SFWA honoured the entire national team instead of an individual player after they qualified for their first World Cup in 28 years.

Liverpool legend Robertson claims it’s fitting that everyone in Steve Clarke’s squad is recognised for the achievement.

But the Scotland captain now wants to follow it up in America this summer by creating more history.

Clarke’s boys reached the World Cup in dramatic fashion by beating the Danes 4-2 at Hampden in November, with Kenny McLean’s wonder goal from the halfway line clinching it.

They sent the Tartan Army into dreamland that night - but Robertson knows they can’t rest on their laurels.

The Scots face Haiti, Morocco and Brazil at the tournament in July and he said: “For me, that Denmark game was the greatest I’ve ever been involved in at this stadium.

“The ending of it still brings a smile to my face when I look on to the pitch at that goal.

“I think a lot of people are like that now.

“But it’s important that we don’t rest on that. We want to go and achieve a lot of good things in the summer as well and give the whole country something to shout about.

“We know people will be in pubs, clubs and houses back home and we’ll be well supported in America.

“It’s up to us to try and create more memories where everyone can pour beer on each other!”

Previous winners of the SFWA award have bene the likes of John McGinn and Scott McTominay.

But Robertson is adamant that the strength of Clarke’s squad is their team spirit.

The 32-year-old - who will leave Anfield at the end of the season - says the current crop of players are a rarity in the modern game.

He said: “This is the best group ever to lead. That’s not me exaggerating. It’s full of good people.

“It’s full of people with no ego at all and we all fight for the same cause.

“We all just want to send everyone inside Hampden home happy.

“That’s the good thing about it. International squads can be big, maybe a 23 to 26 man squad.

“So you need everyone fighting in the same direction whether you play or don’t play.

“We’ve got a very rare group who does that. They’re all supportive and that’s why we can achieve what we’ve achieved.”

Robertson picked up the award as skipper and claims it would have been unfair to pick out one player for the prize.

He said: “It means absolutely everything to achieve the country’s dreams of going to the World Cup.

“Being able to collect this on behalf of the whole squad is a really nice touch.

“To pick one player out would have been really difficult.

“For the whole squad to get recognised is great.”

Clarke and his squad will collect the award at the SFWA awards night in Glasgow on May 17.
